Cork-Howard Construction’s strength is our people who are committed to our client’s work.  Our people include: 


Gene Cork, President

Mr. Cork serves as the President of Cork-Howard Construction. His professional career began in 1984 with Beers Construction Company. In 1989, he began working for, and soon after running a small, local interiors business, Parker & Company.    In 1995, he began Cork-Howard Construction Company. Gene Cork is a native to the Atlanta area where he graduated with honors from Emory University in 1983. Professionally, Mr. Cork sits on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Association of General Contractors, the Bobby Dodd Charities Foundation, Buckhead Christian Ministries, the MetroAtlanta Chamber of Commerce, and WellStar Hospice Foundation.   Additionally, Mr. Cork is involved with the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce and the Atlanta's Carpenters Union Local 225.

Mark Williams  

Mark Williams, Vice President Business Developement

Mr. Williams serves as Vice President of Cork-Howard Construction. He began his professional career with Four Seasons Environmental where he refurbished laboratories and operating rooms for The Center for Disease Control. Mr. Williams continued his construction management career with Beers Construction Company prior to joining Cork-Howard Construction in 1997. Currently, in charge of Business Development, he is utilizing his years of experience and contacts to obtain leads and business growth.  Mr. Williams is a native of Atlanta and a graduate of Young Harris and the University of Georgia. Professionally, he participates with the Association of General Contractors and the Carpenters Union Local 225 and devotes time to the community with the Boy Scouts of America, local Little League Baseball, and North Metro Church.

Richard Kirkland, Senior Project Manager

Mr. Kirkland holds a Bachelors of Science in Building Construction from Georgia Tech and is a licensed GC in the state of Florida.  He brings over 18 years of experience in commercial construction and has managed new construction of base buildings and interior renovations of medical and hospital facilities.  He also has experience in retail, office, condominium, recreational and institutional projects.  His experience and qualifications includes overall project management, client contract negotiations, value engineering, subcontract negotiations, purchasing and scheduling, estimating, and staff supervision.

Joel Smith

Joel Smith, Project Manager/Estimator

Mr. Smith joined the Cork-Howard team in a multi-faceted position as a project manager and estimator.  His activities include assisting in the roll of project estimator, project management, purchasing, scheduling, and job site supervision as needed.  His expertise includes coordination with architects, engineers, owners, job site superintendents, subcontractors, and state and local authorities.

Mr. Smith has a broad range of experience in both the public and private sector including schools, banks, office renovations, and retail sites.   Projects with which he has been involved include the Gwinnett County Community Support Complex renovation, Decatur Recreation Center, America's Mart, Decatur and Fayette County Fire station sites, and numerous SunTrust branch facilities.

Mark Harwell

Mark Harwell, Project Manager/Estimator

Mark brings more than 20 years of experience in commercial and residential construction.  His experience includes project management, estimating, and project superintendent responsibilities specializing in ground up construction, interior and exterior renovations, and site development. Mr. Harwell is a 1993 graduate of Georgia Southern University.

Cary Bond, Project Manager

Cary Bond serves as a Project Manager for Cork-Howard Construction company.   Cary comes to Cork-Howard Construction after an impressive career as a Detective with the Atlanta Police Department. Cary is a graduate of Berry College, with a degree in Engineering Technology and Management.

Cary’s prior experience and personal standards makes him an ideal candidate for Cork-Howard Construction. At the core of his belief system is being prompt and courteous, with a driven work ethic. He is detailed oriented with comprehensive problem-solving skill set, as well as customer service and project management background. His proven history of flexibility in a fast-paced environment and ability to successfully work collaboratively with others is why he is considered an asset for Cork-Howard.

Mr.Bond holds the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission Level 1A Certification.

Pam Johnson, Assistant Project Manager

Ms. Johnson grew up in Texas and North Carolina, respectively, and graduated from the University of North Carolina with a B.S. in Business Management.   Ms. Johnson is currently responsible for assisting the Vice-President and two Senior Project Managers with construction projects in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina.  This includes managing project correspondence, assisting with the bidding process, submittals, RFI's, contracts, owner and subcontract change orders, billing, and closeouts. Ms. Johnson is dedicated to providing her team with the support needed to get the job done and to maintain Cork-Howard Construction Company’s high standards for excellence.

John Handerhan , Senior Project Manager, Tampa

Florida License:  CGC 1518705

Mr. Handerhan serves as Senior Project Manager for Cork-Howard Construction in Tampa. After a successful career in the Atlanta Headquarters, Mr. Handerhan moved to Tampa  to establish our first branch office.  While in Atlanta, Mr. Handerhan helped lead the company into the healthcare segment of our industry.  Since in Tampa, Mr. Handerhan is responsible for tripling the size of the branch.

Vicki Blahut, Director of Safety and Human Resources

Ms. Blahut serves as Director of Safety and Human Resouorces for Cork-Howard Construction and has 16 years of experience in civil engineering, land surveying and architecture combined with 17 years of experience in interior and base building construction. Ms. Blahut holds an Advanced Safety Certificate (NSC), 30 Hour Construction Safety and Health certificate from OSHA, is an authorized OSHA 10 & 30 Hour Construction Industry Trainer, is ASHE certified in Infection Control Risk Assessment (IRCA), and CPR, first aid and bloodborne pathogens. Ms. Blahut is also Cork-Howard's Certified Lead Renovator and holds a Level 1A Certification from Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission (GSWCC) for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).  Professionally she is an active member of the National Safety Council (NSC), American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and Associated General Contractors of Georgia Safety Committee; and a member the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), both nationally and the Atlanta Chapter.   Vicki currently holds the position of chairperson for the AGC HR Forum Special Interest Group, a newly created group which brings together Human Resource Professionals working in the construction industry.

Eddie Cobb, Estimator

Mr. Cobb serves as the Senior Estimator for Cork-Howard and is distinguished by the length of service he has provided Cork-Howard; coming with the company founders from a previous construction company not long after the company started.  Eddie is the lead estimator on the multi-floor and fast-paced interiors projects, as well as contributing in other areas where needed.
